For my week two reading I have chosen to read part A of Apuleius's Cupidand Psyche. I read this story in high school and it was one of my favorites. I
am excited to read these because the go more in-depth and show more background
to the story, besides who doesn’t love a love story?
In weeks 6-7, a story that caught my eye was the Monkey King. This story
seems interesting to me because I have not read anything like this. I am intrigued
by the use of magic and myth in this story. The story itself remind me a little
of the movie the Sorceress Apprentice.
In weeks 11-12 I am so excited to read the Celtic Tales. The main aspect
of these stories that caught my eye is that they involve leprechauns. I like
the idea of something that movies and books have fictionalized as one way and
then finding stories that transform them into something else. Like how Disney
paints fairy’s as cute and harmless, while Shakespeare paints them as manipulative.
In week 13-14 I want to read the full story of the Little Mermaid. It was
one of my favorite movies when I was younger, so I am excited to see how the
original story goes. Within this same week I would also like to check out the
Dante sections. I took a World of Dante class last semester, so it is a subject
I am very interest in.
Katie,
ReplyDeleteI really like your explanations for why you selected each of the stories that you did. I too am looking forward to re-reading things I had in high school and seeing how my perspective has changed. A lot of the material sounds very exciting! The story about the little mermaid will definitely be an interesting one to read. Comparing the original story to the Disney version should be fun.
