This week I chose to read Sinbad! I had never read this story before, but I love hero tales, so I decided to give it a shot!
Throughout Part A of Sinbad's tales, he is constantly getting into trouble though bizarre circumstances. My favorite part of this story was when he was left on an island and to get off that island he tied himself to a giant bird. I liked it because the story showed how clever he was (using his turban as rope) and it also showed that he is fair and kind. To both the king on voyage one and the men on voyage two, he does not hesitate to give his treasure and merchandise as a thank you to those who help him. While reading this story I couldn't help but think about how much it reminded me of Indiana Jones. My dad was a huge fan of these movies, so I grew up watching them. For my story this week it might be fun to see what happens if Indiana Jones and Sinbad pair up. With both of their habit of getting into trouble it would be interesting to see what treasures and adventures they have. I want to bring Sinbad back to his home of Bagdad, so I think that would be a good setting for my story.
Along with this I like the idea of a story within a story, I think it could be interesting to have Indiana Jones teaching a class (welcome Professor Jones) about the tales of Sinbad only to be transported into the story himself.
On his voyages Sinbad faces a giant island that was a fish, Roc the huge bird, a land of giants, snakes and other monsters. These all represent the perfect predicaments for Indiana and Sin Bad to get into. For my story I want to research artifacts native to Bagdad, so that I have an accurate object for them to search for. I think this gives the characters purpose.
